Got a 3 month or so old Samsung Series 5 Ultra with Windows 8, which had been working fine. But I frequently switch between this wireless combo and the laptop keyboard with other wireless mouse. I reinstalled Windows 8 again last month to see if Microsoft fixed the issue.
After much screwing around myself and a useless chat session and phone call to MS Support, I rebooted using the Windows 8 dvd. Disconnect the mouse and keyboard. Some day in the future when MS puts out the fix install it and then you can turn filter keys back on. I got a solution!!!! The volume rocker also stops working indicating it is probably connected to the function keys. Whenever I start my computer, my mouse and keyboard will work upon startup and all that, I can enter my BIOS just fine, all of the USB ports are enabled. I can't figure out exactly why. I tried to reinstall them (after several reboots). I have since started using an 8 year old OpticalUSB mouse with2 buttons and a mouse wheel that I had for my XP laptop. Now connect the keyboard and mouse. If you can access the affected Windows 10 system through Remote Desktop or other remote control software such as TeamViewer, downgrade and rollback to previous Windows version.

The track pad was working fine until a series of Windows Updates which knocked the pad out. Problem solved. This can be the problem... Couple of hard resets and eventually they start working again.
